Lapis Lazuli is a deep blue metamorphic rock that has been prized since antiquity for its vibrant colour.
This beautiful rock is an aggregate of several minerals including lazurite, calcite and pyrite.
Lazurite is the rock responsible for producing the gem’s most prized asset—it's bright royal blue colour and golden flecks of pyrite create a sparkle in lapis lazuli.
Available in shades of greenish blue through to violetish blue, lapis lazuli was once ground into powder and made into ultramarine: the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. It was used by some of the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Spiritually speaking, lapis lazuli is associated with self-expression and awareness. It is said to encourage honesty of the spirit and brings harmony in relationships.
